This leg is the “shakedown” leg where we stretch our sails, learn about navigating in high-traffic shipping lanes, practice docking our 50’ catamaran. Beginning in Gig Harbor, WA, we will spend the first two or three days getting to the San Juan Islands at a where you will help decide where we anchor or which marina(s) we visit. This involves crossing the Straight of Juan de Fuca which will allow us (potentially) to see some weather!
From the San Juan Islands, we will cross into Canada and demonstrate crossing international borders and will explore the Gulf Islands. Within the Gulf Islands, we will learn to identify and respect Orca Protected Zones in Canada as well as explore amazing communities in southern British Columbia.
